5 Things To Do in Marbella, Spain

The city of Marbella is where European vacationers go. You will meet a lot of people from the UK, Ireland, and Northern Europe. Being from the United States, I tell people that it is Europe’s Florida, a tropical getaway for those in colder places.

The people of Marbella are so nice and the views are spectacular. Take in the calm and slow lifestyle and enjoy Spain with these five things that I suggest are must-dos in Marbella.

1. Go to Old Town Marbella

Old Town Marbella is what comes to mind when you dream of Spain. The small streets are white and have an old style that makes you feel like you stepped back in time, or are in a romantic movie. The tiles lining the streets entice you to jump into the culture and embrace the Spanish lifestyle of slow moving.

2. Visit Ojén

Ojén is a small town in the mountains that not many people know about. It’s a 15-20 minute drive from Marbella. On your way, you’ll be swerving through the mountains going up steep roads and the drivers there don’t like it when you go slow. So, make sure you have a reliable car and are comfortable driving in the mountains. Stop at a local restaurant and have some sangria and enjoy the views.

3. Go to a restaurant on the beach

Walking along the beach, there are many restaurants with a nice view of the Mediterranean Sea. We stopped at Nikki Beach for a romantic lunch. At Nikki Beach, are able to rent chairs and can swim in their pool while enjoying a cocktail in a watermelon (or a bottle of champagne for 28,000 euros, up to you).

4. Go on a hike

Not many people will assume there’s hiking in Spain, but we researched hiking spots near us and found a trail that ended with a great view of Marbella. Along the hike, we ended up in an olive farm and saw some wild animals. I’m so glad we got to get away from the city and see the country.

5. Chill in a café

Find a small café in Old Town or somewhere near you and enjoy a café leché (latte) while people watching. Practice your Spanish a little bit (they love it when you try speaking Spanish) and have a conversation with a local.
