Sanibel Island in Florida is off the West Coast, north of the Keys and south of Tampa. The white beaches are what you dream of when thinking of a tropical vacation. The island has many exciting, hidden gems. Spend the day exploring all the island has to offer.
1. Early Morning Shelling
One of the top reasons some people come to Sanibel Island is to shell. There is nothing better than walking the beach when the sun is rising with a cup of coffee to find a treasure.
2. Make a Stop at She Sells Sea Shells
This store sells all of the shells that you couldn’t find on the beach, plus some. Most shells are locally sourced and cured. Find a treasure and some unique finds. This is a great place to purchase momentos for family and friends that hold Sanibel close to their heart.

3. Shop and See the Birds at Periwinkle Place
Periwinkle Place has your local grocery store, shoe stores, and a place to grab a new towel or floaty. There are also the famous birds that love to talk to you. Don’t forget to grab ice cream at the Love Boat.
4. Go on a Hike and Bike
Rent a bike from Billy’s Rentals and explore the island like a local. Ride the length of the island which is 10 miles. Or, walk on the many trails you can find. Ding Darling is a common place to check out for your outdoor adventures. Just watch out for the gators.

5. Enjoy the Local Cuisine
There are many great restaurants on the island that will have excellent fish, shakes, ice cream, burgers, and anything else that tickles you fancy in Florida. Some of my favorites are Cheeburger Cheeburger (get on the hall of fame eating a pounder!), Island Cow, Doc Fords, Blue Giraffe, and Timbers.

6. Island Sunsets
After you enjoy your day of adventures, hit the beach and see the greatest treasure the island holds. You will never be disappointed by a Sanibel Sunset.
