8 Things To Do on Kauai

Since I left Hawaii, I always imagine the waves crashing against the lava rocks with a Big Wave beer in hand. The islands will leave you breathless as you explore the beauty and culture. On our trip, we stayed on the islands of Kauai and Oahu. The first eight days were spent on Kauai, which is also known as the Garden Island. We stayed at an Airbnb one night and then at the Marriott Waiohai Beach Club for the rest of the time. This resort was on a bay along Poipu Beach. The blue waters and the perfect weather that never seems to change will make you want to stay at the resort all day. But, we decided to explore and learn more about the island. Here are the top eight things that I don’t want you to miss when you head to one of the most beautiful islands in the world.

1. Na Pali Coast Boat Tour

I’m a sucker for a good boat ride and lucky for me, that is one of the only ways to see the stunning Na Pali Coast. We used Captain Andy’s for our adventure. We sailed the coast on a catamaran and were given breakfast and lunch. When we arrived to the coast, we got to take in the stunning views and then snorkeled. Some people are worried about seasickness, but this boat is large enough to ensure a smooth ride. The sailors are there everyday and know when they shouldn’t go out. I would recommend bringing some Dramamine, just in case.

2. Visit Waimea Canyon

Waimea Canyon is known for it’s appearance in Jurassic Park and other movies. Besides that, it is called the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific” and when you see it, you will understand why. What amazed me the most about the canyon is that fact that it is on an island. How amazing is it that this island that doesn’t seem too large, but has this huge canyon in the middle of it?

When you visit the canyon, you will go up a steep and windy road. Don’t worry though, you will have beautiful views and will be able to stop and take in the scenery. On your way up, you will be able to stop at some lookouts and of course, see some rooster friends. When you get to the very top, you will be able to look out to the ocean on the top of the Na Pali coast. That also depends on the weather! When we went, it was cloudy which was also eery considering we didn’t know we were at the top of the Na Pali coast when we were there. Don’t skip out on this one, trust me!

3. Take a Hike

No matter what your hiking level is, there is a trail for you! My grandparents, aunt, uncle, husband, and I all took this beautiful hike along the coast. We got up early enough to see the sunrise over the ocean. I’m always an advocate for taking hikes on vacation, burn those calories and veg out later! You can find trails in Kauai here.

4. Explore the Island

We stayed on the west side of the island and decided to explore the east side — I’m glad we did! On the northeast end of the island is where you will find luscious greenery and exotic plants that line the slow-moving roads. We found an adorable restaurant and were able to find some private beaches. We ended up at the famous Hanalei Bay where we found surfers and the beautiful sands. You will also see beautiful sunsets on this side of the island, in the springtime anyways. Again, don’t be afraid to venture out and explore other areas of Kauai.

5. Eat Hawaiian Pizza

I know, this is such a dorky thing to add. But, if you are ever going to eat Hawaiian pizza, why not eat it in Hawaii?! We went to a delicious pizza joint in Koloa called Pizzetta. I would highly recommend it!

6. Go to Kauai Coffee

Did you know that Hawaii is the only place in the U.S. that grows coffee? Kauai Coffee on Kauai has tours and provides free samples (yum!). There is also something about the Hawaii coffee that tastes so good! It’s fun to explore the fields and buy some beans.

7. Try Ono

If you like seafood, I highly suggest trying Ono! We had this fish a few times and our favorite time was at the Postcard Cafe in Hanalei. This is a sweet, small cafe that has a few options on their menu. The side of coconut rice and wine were delish!

8. Go to a Luau

Lastly, I would definitely go to a luau! You to experience the Hawaiian and Polynesian culture, as well as have some delicious food! This is an experience that you can only have in Hawaii. We went to Smith’s Family Garden Luau which has a lot of land with exotic plants. You will also see the hula dances and be blown away by the talent.

Are you heading to Kauai soon? I hope you fall in love with the island like I did. Post any pictures with #TheAdventureGal and let me know what you did!
