Ireland is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. The people are wonderful and the sites are like a dream. The weather isn’t too bad either. If you’re planning a trip to Ireland, my first tip is to not limit yourself to one town or county. Rent a car and get Airbnb’s all over the country to get the full experience of Irish culture.
1. Visit Dublin
Visiting Dublin might seem obvious, but many people don’t want to visit and just want to get to the countryside. When we first got to my college, Dublin City University, we were just itching to leave the city, but there was so much to see.
First, make sure you visit Trinity College and then take your time walking the Viking-made streets to St. Patrick’s Cathedral. On your way, stop at the Brazen Head, Ireland’s oldest pub that has been in operation since 1198.
When you’re in Dublin, also check out the cute shops, walk across the River Liffey, and make your way to the Guiness brewery for a tour (you get two pints while you’re there!). I didn’t make it to Jameson, but I wish I did.
2. Cliffs of Moher (obvi)
Some people come to Ireland just for the cliffs. I assumed that everyone makes their way, but the few people that I have talked to that didn’t, regret it immensely. If you go there from Dublin, there are bus tours that are reasonably priced and it’s more comfortable than driving yourself. They will also stop at different places like restaurants or the town of Galway. If you are doing a circle tour, make sure to stay at a nearby Airbnb in a small town that you might have missed on a map.

3. Be a Gal in Galway
We all want to be Ed Sheeran’s Galway Girl, but it’s ok if you’re not. This is a great stop on you way to the cliffs, you can do it all in one day. This is where the famous Claddagh rings are made. Make sure to buy one and check out the beautiful, colorful streets. While you’re there, have some fish and chips with cider for me.
4. Rent an Airbnb in the countryside
I’m serious, this is how you experience any country’s culture. No, it isn’t scary and the people that own the house aren’t going to murder you. Staying in Airbnb’s have been so fun and you get to meet the people of the country. In Ireland, I stayed in three total. One in Dublin and two in small towns. The two in the countryside were my favorites. One we stayed in overlooked a bay with a castle in the background, and one had a beautiful view of Croagh Patrick. Don’t be scared, but embrace the culture and people.
5. Visit all the castles
Ireland is known for their castles. Google “castles near me” and you will find so many. If you are in Malahide, check out the castle there. In any town that you visit, you can find a castle. Find out the history and bask in the culture of Ireland. Did I mention there are great Instagram inspos?!
